The iPod Phone

ipod phone, apple ipod phone, iphone, apple iphone

Well, the iPhone - or the iPod phone as some people refer to it - is finally with us.

Ever since the iPhone was announced at Macworld in Jan 2007 the gadget has won a massive amount of coverage worldwide.

So what is all the fuss about?

Well, for a start, it looks beautiful.

This quad-band phone has a 3.5in (9cm) touch screen display, with wi-fi, a camera and a web browser on board. It is very sleek and stylish.

It is also intended to be an iPod so you can use it as a media player to listen to music and watch video. So no more carrying 2 devices.

It is available in two versions sporting either 4gb or 8gb of memory.

Apple declared the iPhone's battery would give 8 hours of talktime, 6 hours of net use or 7 hours of video watching. However, the battery is non-removable which is a pain.

The touch screen typing does take some getting used to. Data download speeds were sluggish as well.

The iPhone has also been criticised because it does not use the 3G network, something which is seen as a 'must have' in the European market.

Another flaw is that it does not support instant messaging or voice-activated dialling and does not let people choose ringtones beyond the 25 pre-installed on it.

That said, the user experience is second to none and will revolutionize the way mobile communications are in the future.

Apple said it hoped to sell 10 million iPod phones by 2008 and grab itself a 1% share of the mobile phone market.
